The tramway network connecting Royal Leamington Spa and neighbouring Warwick operated for nearly five decades, transitioning through two distinct eras:

When They Began

  • Opening Date: November 21, 1881
  • The Era: The system originally opened as a horse-drawn tramway managed by the Leamington and Warwick Tramways and Omnibus Company, running a roughly 3-mile route between the two towns.

When They Finished

  • Closing Date: August 16, 1930
  • The Era: By 1905, the network was modernized, electrified, and re-gauged. However, facing heavy competition from motor buses and the need for track upgrades, the electric tram system was ultimately shut down in the summer of 1930.
